Didcot CC Under-11s, led by captain Benedict Howman-Bett, produced a well-organised and disciplined display to overcome Horspath after electing to field first.
Didcot Apply Early Pressure
After choosing to bowl, Didcot immediately set about restricting Horspath’s scoring. Christopher Bull conceded just five from the opening over, despite an early boundary, and Oscar Cox-Rogers followed with a tight second over to keep things under control.
Horspath’s openers, O Katz and E Berry, found runs hard to come by as Didcot maintained accurate lines and sharp fielding. Overs 5 through 10 in particular saw long stretches of dot balls, including a maiden from Daatri Gumudelli, as Horspath struggled to build momentum.
The pressure eventually told when Tobias Marton made the breakthrough, bowling E Berry for a patient 7. From there, Didcot continued to dominate proceedings, with very few scoring opportunities offered.
Wickets Fall as Didcot Stay on Top
Daatri Gumudelli’s spell remained especially miserly, and at one point Horspath went several overs with almost no runs coming from the bat. However, a late push was sparked by J Creed and A Durbin, aided by a number of extras.
Despite this, Didcot kept picking up crucial wickets:
• Hrim Kapatel bowled E Tariq
• Benedict Howman-Bett struck in key over, including dismissing I Ali first ball
• A sharp run-out involving wicketkeeper William Dagnell removed Durbin
Creed managed a boundary late on, and Horspath finished strongly with a four in the final over, but Didcot had done enough to restrict them to 73 runs, with extras accounting for a significant portion.
William Dagnell and James Lewis-Rush Guide the Chase
Didcot’s chase began steadily but not without setbacks, as early run-outs left them needing to rebuild. Good fielding from Horspath briefly applied pressure, and at one stage Didcot had lost a couple of wickets cheaply.
The innings was then settled by William Dagnell and James Lewis-Rush, who put together a composed partnership. James Lewis-Rush played the more attacking role, striking two confident boundaries in the ninth over to shift the momentum.
William Dagnell complemented him well, rotating the strike and keeping the scoreboard ticking as Didcot moved closer to the target.
Extras and Late Acceleration Finish the Job
Horspath, much like Didcot earlier, were hampered by extras, with wides in particular helping Didcot maintain control of the chase.
Going into the final stages, Didcot needed only a handful of runs. Didcot kept their composure, and it was William Dagnell who fittingly finished things off—hitting a boundary and running well between the wickets to take Didcot past the target.
Didcot reached their total with overs to spare, completing a deserved victory.

A special highlight came from Tobias Marton, who marked his U11 league debut in style by clean bowling E Berry—sending the middle stump flying with a superb delivery that brought big celebrations from the Didcot side.
