Oxford CC won the toss and elected to field
The Didcot U11s welcomed Oxford for a cold and windy 20 over contest that delivered everything junior cricket promises: determination, drama, momentum swings, and a thrilling finish shaped by committed bowling and sharp fielding. With both sides battling hard across 40 overs, the match produced standout individual moments and a team performance full of character.
First Innings – Didcot Fight Through Early Pressure
Oxford’s decision to bowl first paid immediate dividends as Didcot were forced to rebuild repeatedly after early wickets. Oscar Cox Rogers fell in the opening over, and Cherish Reddy Gopu followed soon after, leaving Didcot under pressure at the top of the innings.
But Shiv Panchal became the glue of the innings, batting with patience and resilience as partners came and went. His ability to rotate the strike and punish loose deliveries kept Didcot afloat.
The middle overs saw a spirited partnership between Shiv Panchal and Christopher Bull, who struck two boundaries and brought much needed momentum. Further contributions from Charlie Reason and Alex Freeman helped Didcot stabilise again after a flurry of wickets from Oxford’s lively attack.
The final overs were a mixture of singles, byes, wides, and no balls—exactly the kind of chaotic junior cricket energy that can swing an innings. Didcot finished with a competitive total, built on grit rather than fireworks.
Second Innings – Didcot Bowlers Turn the Match on Its Head
Defending their total, Didcot produced one of their most disciplined and determined bowling displays of the season. Every bowler contributed, and the fielders backed them brilliantly.
A Dream Start
Christopher Bull opened the innings with fire, removing J Stewart Liberty in the first over thanks to a superb sliding knee catch from Oscar Cox Rogers. Oxford tried to counterattack through T Hills and L Yang, but tight overs from Shiv Panchal, Oscar Cox Rogers, and James Lewis Rush kept the scoring in check.
Middle Overs – Didcot Take Control
The breakthrough came when Hrim Kapatel struck, removing L Yang with a great catch by Alex Freeman. Moments later, Isaac Keegan produced a brilliant run out combination with William Dagnell and Charlie Reason, dismissing T Hills and swinging the momentum firmly Didcot’s way.
Cherish Reddy Gopu then delivered a superb spell, bowling S JI and keeping Oxford pinned down with disciplined lines.
Late Innings Pressure – Fielding Brilliance Seals It
Oxford entered the final five overs needing to accelerate, but Didcot’s bowlers held their nerve:
• Charlie Reason removed B Allen with a smart caught and bowled.
• Oscar Cox Rogers bowled M Uehara to tighten the squeeze.
• Isaac Keegan struck again, bowling I Wykes.
• And in the final over, Christopher Bull produced two run outs—Z Bukhari and X Yang—to close out the innings in style.
The last over summed up the team’s spirit: energetic, alert, and determined to finish the job. This match showcased everything that makes junior cricket special: resilience with the bat, teamwork with the ball, and fielding that grows sharper every week. Didcot’s young players showed heart, discipline, and a willingness to fight for every run and wicket.
A performance to be proud of.
Player of the Match: Shiv Panchal
Shiv anchored the innings brilliantly, holding firm while wickets fell around him and giving Didcot the stability they needed to post a competitive total. He backed it up with disciplined bowling and sharp fielding, making him the standout performer of the match.
I-Scream Moment – Charlie Reason’s Reflex Catch
This week’s I Scream Moment goes to Charlie Reason for a piece of pure instinct and athleticism — a sharp caught and bowled that turned the match. Off his own bowling, Charlie reacted in a split second to cling onto a firm return chance, a moment that had teammates erupting and shifted the momentum firmly Didcot’s way. A brilliant reflex grab and a highlight worthy of the loudest cheer of the day.
