Cumnor CC won the toss and chose to field first, giving Didcot the chance to set a total. What followed was a spirited, determined batting display from the Didcot youngsters, followed by a gritty bowling performance that held firm under pressure.
First Innings – Didcot Batting
Didcot’s innings began with Jerry New setting the tone. After a watchful start, he found his rhythm with crisp boundaries in the 2nd and 4th overs, finishing with a confident contribution that gave the innings early momentum. His partnership with Shiv Panchal was steady and composed, rotating the strike and keeping the scoreboard moving.
Further down the order, William Dagnell injected energy with 8 runs from 8 balls, including a well struck boundary. Shiv Panchal continued to anchor the innings, working singles and twos while absorbing pressure during tight spells.
Cumnor’s bowlers applied consistent pressure, picking up wickets at regular intervals — including dismissals of Shiv Panchal, Charlie Reason, Oscar Cox Rogers, and James Lewis Rush — but Didcot’s middle order refused to fold.
The closing overs were a mixture of disciplined defence and opportunistic running. Cherish Reddy Gopu and Hrim Kapatel held their nerve, adding valuable late runs despite a flurry of wides and no balls from the opposition. Their calm approach ensured Didcot reached a competitive total.
Second Innings – Didcot Bowling
Defending their score, Didcot’s bowlers delivered a collective performance full of heart, accuracy, and pressure moments.
Oscar Cox Rogers opened the bowling with a tight, disciplined spell, conceding almost nothing and forcing Cumnor to work hard for every run.
William Dagnell followed with a superb over, giving away just two byes and keeping the batters tied down. His later return brought the breakthrough — a clean bowled dismissal of C Kight, a key moment that swung momentum back to Didcot.
The key breakthrough came from Jerry New, who pulled off a superb catch from Christopher Bull’s bowling to remove a dangerous batter. It lifted the whole team — a real momentum changer that tightened Didcot’s grip on the innings.
James Lewis Rush then produced a brilliant double wicket over, removing two of the Cumnor batters in consecutive deliveries. His pace and line rattled the middle order and created real scoreboard pressure.
As the innings entered its final phase, Shiv Panchal, Cherrish Reddy Gopu, and Jerry New each bowled crucial overs. Though Cumnor found late runs through wides, byes, and a handful of boundaries, Didcot’s bowlers held their nerve. The fielders backed them up with sharp stops and alert running between wickets.
In the final over, despite a burst of scoring from Cumnor, Didcot’s earlier discipline proved decisive — the visitors finished 9 runs short of the target.
