After winning the toss, Didcot elected to bowl first to take advantage of the challenging overcast and windy conditions.
Opening bowler Samar Wadhwa delivered a sensational start, clean bowled the Oxford’s opener with the very first ball of the match. He followed it up with another scalp in his opening over, removing the second opener with a sharp delivery that rattled the stumps.
Despite the early setbacks, Oxford mounted a spirited recovery. Through clever rotation of strike and aggressive running between the wickets, they piled on the pressure and reached 83-2 by the end of the ninth over. However, Didcot struck back just in time, Jerry New broke the partnership with a key wicket, and in the following over, Samar Wadhwa returned to claim another crucial dismissal, swinging the momentum back in Didcot’s favour.
Rayyan Imran then chipped in with a lightning-quick run-out off his own bowling to dent Oxford further. In the death overs, Anthony Vinall impressed with two wickets, and another sharp run-out, also off his own bowling, helped restrict Oxford to a total of 130 from their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing 131, Didcot got off to a flying start, with Laksh Bhagavani cracking three boundaries in the opening over. Jovin Nagularapu kept the momentum going, racing to a mandatory retirement after a blistering 25 off just 14 balls. Although Didcot lost a couple of quick wickets, their scoring rate remained comfortably ahead of the required pace.
Jerry New continued the trend with a quick-fire 25 off 20 balls, while a composed innings from Rayyan Imran anchored the chase. Didcot cruised home with ease, sealing the win with three overs to spare.
Didcot's fielding and improved running between the wickets were standout feature of their performance. They displayed sharp awareness with quick running between the wickets, strong backing up of throws, and several great stops in the field - including a brilliant sliding save by Rayyan Imran to prevent a certain boundary.
