Match Report written by Phil Bett
Didcot’s second match saw the Didcot batters come into their own to the delight of the coaches and travelling supporters. Consistent scoring saw each batting pair reach double figures. Accurate, powerful stroke play led to a number of boundaries and some good running between the wickets kept the scoresheet ticking over with some sharp singles, which were turned into doubles. A disciplined bowling and fielding display saw Didcot win the match by 19 runs.
Didcot sent Leonardo De Silva and Arthur Dubovsky to the wicket to open the batting. Leonardo and Arthur both scored boundaries in an opening stand of 13, which got Didcot off to a positive start. William Dagnell and Max North were introduced when the batters were rotated at the end of the second over. The new batters shared a stand of 10, with some excellent running between the wickets to extend single runs into two. Max took a blow for his team, when a short pitched delivery made contact with his head. He showed great character and bravery to continue his innings and support his batting partner to score more runs after the delay in the game. Well done Max! Oliver van Rooyen and Benedict Howman Bett were the next pair of batters to the wicket. Oliver and Benedict both scored boundaries accumulating a partnership of 17, which included a powerful shot down the ground from Benedict. Hrim Kapatel and Alex Freeman entered as the last pair of batters for Didcot. The boundaries continued to flow, with Hrim striking a powerful shot to score four from the batting tee. Alex scored 11 from the last 3 deliveries to complete the scoring with a partnership of 19 with Hrim.
Didcot’s final score was 57 from their 8 overs.
Max opened the bowling for Didcot. Tiddington got off to a good start in their run chase, scoring four boundaries. After a short delay for an injury (once again a very brave display from the Tiddington batter who continued his innings after the delay), the batters continued their positive stroke play. Oliver took the ball for Didcot in the second over and after conceding his first ball for four, then restricted the batters to no further runs off the bat in the over. Alex followed, taking a wicket and allowing just two singles. Hrim bowled splendidly, his over was a maiden with a wicket from a catch to top it off! The wicket off Hrim’s over came from an outstanding piece of fielding from William to run out the Tiddington batter. Great teamwork from Didcot! After his sharp piece of fielding, William was next to bowl. The committed bowling and fielding on display restricted Tiddington to another over without any boundaries. A third wicket was taken by Arthur in his over. Leonardo conceded one wide and no runs off the bat in the penultimate over before Benedict completed the innings by allowing a solitary run from the last over.
Tiddington All Stars final score was 38 from their 8 overs.
Didcot win by 19 runs.
A great all round team performance from Didcot, which saw consistent scoring from the batters and a disciplined bowling and fielding display.
