A summary of the many goings-on at Didcot CC in April ahead of the 2024 outdoor season

Annual Membership Subs
Annual membership subs are now live and available to pay via the Pitchero shop (look for the trolly symbol in your app). You have the option to pay in full or split the payment over multiple months. Membership subs are the club’s main income stream and must be paid if you wish to play this season. We encourage you to pay early as the rate increases if not paid before July.

Over the next few days, we will endeavour to assign all players to one of 4 products: Senior/Colt, Junior, Spirit Women or Spirit Girls. If you believe you’ve been assigned to the wrong product, please let us know by emailing membership@didcotcricketclub.com. As always, the club is open to supporting any of our members that may struggle to pay. If you are at all worried, please get in contact with us at the above address.

Safeguarding Officer
We are still in need of a volunteer to act as our Safeguarding Officer for the 2024 season. If we don’t have someone in place before the start of the season, we risk losing our Clubmark status and will not be able to offer juniors cricket this year. This is most suitable to a parent and ideally someone who does not already hold a role within the club. Please get in contact with Scot (vicechair@didcotcricketclub.com) if you are able to help.

Sponsorship
As per DPs recent communication, the club is looking to increase sponsorship to keep membership costs affordable and support more outreach work to open up cricket in local schools. If you have contacts with local businesses in the area, perhaps your employer, please encourage them to sponsor our club. The club will waive membership fees for members who introduce a new sponsor that takes up one of our sponsorship packages. Email sponsorship@didcotcricketclub.com.

Weather
Due to the very wet winter which has continued into spring, it has been impossible for Boundary Park to start pre-season square preparations. First rolling of the square would usually start late Feb / early March taking 4-6 weeks before being ready for play. While this can be achieved a little quicker, it is a sequential process that requires time for the ground to.

Senior pre-season meeting: Thursday 11th April - 7:00pm
An information session for all senior players. It is a chance to reunite with old teammates, meet new members of the club, and introduce our captains for the upcoming 2024 season.

Getting the ground ready: Saturday 13th April - 11:00am
We need all hands on deck Saturday 13th April to get the ground ready for the 2024 season. This includes getting the covers out, putting the roll on nets up and raising the perimeter nets. The more people that help, the faster we can finish. Join us for a social in the club afterwards.

Quiz Night - Friday 19th April - 7:30pm
Our first club social of the season is the now annual Quiz Night hosted by our Club Captain, Nam Lall, and First XI captain, Ceri Holmes. It will be a family friendly quiz, all members (Senior and Junior) are invited to join and encouraged to bring along friends and family.

Junior Parents Meeting: Friday 26th April - 6:30pm
Junior outdoor training is scheduled to start on Friday 26th April pending improvement in the weather (see above). There will be a parents meeting in the Boundary Park function room at the same time where junior team managers for 2024 will be introduced along with important information for the season ahead. Further details will be communicated to parents nearer the time.

Outdoor Training
Junior outdoor training will be on Friday evenings throughout the summer. The provisional date for starting outdoors is Friday 26th April but is highly dependent on the weather.
Senior outdoor training will be on Thursdays and will start as soon as possible once the ground is deemed ready. Look out for training being added to your Pitchero calendar.

South and Vale District Council’s Playing Pitches and Leisure Facilities Consultation
South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils have an open consultation on their Playing Pitch and Leisure Facilities Strategies which is seeking feedback on the need for new playing pitches and leisure facilities across the region. We encourage you to submit your comments at the relevant links above.

Fantasy Didcot Cricket
We are planning to run a fantasy cricket league across the Didcot CC senior teams. Who will make your fantasy 11 each week? Look out for further updates and how to sign up closer to the start of the season.
